NOAA Buoy and Tide Data App Reviews

This app provides ship reports of actual conditions around me in the Bahamas. When the weather is supposed to deteriorate, or when I dont trust the forecast (which is often) I use this app to find out what is really happening. When the forecaster calls for a front with winds, say, in the 20-25kt range, I get the ship reports sorted by distance to see if it is better or worse than expected. Frequently, I have seen ship reports of winds far in excess of the predictions. The map view allows me to follow the front as it approaches and to check whether a report likely represents a localized squall or a general condition on the other side of the front. This allows me to take precautions like setting another anchor, or reefing the sails, or finding sheltered harbour. The data is presented very well. I have tried to find it directly at NOAA, but with no success. It is pretty challenging to pick a few reports out of a long tabular list of NOAA data when the weathers getting bad at sea. The map function is critical. Admittedly, you do have to have Internet access on your boat to use this, but that is becoming much cheaper and more readily available. This is the only weather app that allows me to easily check actual conditions. I use it almost every day.

This app no longer works. All I get is an error message that says "Unable to Load Data" Error B1098. The last time they updated the app was like 2 years ago. Looks like its kaput.

Rip off - less data than going to NOAA website

The app pulls useless info and displays links to NOAA? Why not use safari? Disappointed.

Very useful app. Will use over and over again. Info at your finger tips.

If you fish or boat, current weather conditions are important. A touch or two of your phone gives you all the info you need before you go. Now even better you got radar images of the area to let you know if its raining or not! Good work!

Very good tool for monitoring the sea conditions in my area (SE North Carolina). Easy way to get a marine forecast, and the tides listed by closest proximity to you is awesome.

This is a great app, easy to use lots of info and the new version with local radar and forecasts is a wonderful addition. All the real time info a boater needs in one app!

I like all the things that this app does, there are a lot more that it could do. Look forward to seeing how it evolves.

Its good and worth it but it could be much better.

This app is terrific. Current conditions at the buoy plus an easy link to the National Weather Service Forecast for the area encompassing that buoy. Just tap the Wave or Cloud icon and shezaaam. The link provides the current dynamic radar map and the 5-day forecast for the Zone, including wave height, wind speed & direction. Having this info close at hand is a great aid to setting up a float plan.

Since the update for the iPhone 4 this app has been indispensable for checking buoy reports and tides. Searchable, updates easily, gives maps and lists of all buoy and tide spots and allows favorites without requiring a login. Worth every penny.

No wave height on the only two buoys from lake worth to port Everglades. I can navigate to NOAA website on my own by adding as a favorite and creating an icon.

This is a must have. Great app and even better now with the moon phases.

Excellent upgrade, with the addition of moon phases. With so much work and so little time to get on the water I was using a separate app to check moon phase for most efficient times to hit the ramp.

One of my favorite boating apps and moon phases is great to plan my fishing/shrimping trips.

Great app for the boater or fisherman. Easy to use. I usually use this app before venturing too far offshore or make a crossing to the bahamas. Gives you a better idea of what to expect, atleast weatherwise. The addition of the moon phase is an added plus.

Could be better. Needs water temp and a better radar for the price!

Every time I open it to view buoy data it keeps crashing.... Or when you click on the wave icon it crashes.... Please fix it...
